Submitting a film to Studentfilms.com is now free and there is no longer a need to mail your film.
To submit a film, simply post a link to your DirectorsLive**, Vimeo, or YouTube film in the Short Films Forum. If you would like to have your film embedded, contact us and we can modify the code for you once you post your film as the forum software doesn't allow forum members to post embed code.
** DirectorsLive has entered into a promotion with Studentfilms.com where site members can get a 15% discount when they sign up with DirectorsLive if they use the promo code "studentfilms". DirectorsLive allows filmmakers to showcase their films and earn some ad revenue at the same time.
- How do I get my film featured on the main page of the site?
Once you post a link to your DirectorsLive, Vimeo, or YouTube film in the Short Films Forum it will show up in the list of films on the main page.
We pick a new film to be featured on the main page of the site every couple of days.
- How do I get more people to see and review my film?
Announce your film and spread the word!
Also, if your film has fallen off of the list on the main page of the site, feel free to "bump" the film to the top of the list as it lists the most recently commented on film.
- What happened to the old site?
The old version of Studentfilms.com hadn't changed since 2001, but the internet has changed quite a bit. In the age of DirectorsLive, Vimeo, or YouTube it doesn't make sense to have to mail in a film to the site and the old ways of reviewing films didn't provide immediate feedback. Now, it is free and easy to submit a film and people can review your films as soon as you post them and there is no need to wait for the reviews to be approved.
We were trying to update the old site so one could upload films directly but with a budget of zero there wasn't a cheap and easy way to do it.
In the end, I decided that posting films to the forums could provide the same benefit to filmmakers as the old method of submitting films to the site.
The old site is still accessible here and will be for a couple of months into 2010.
If you submitted a film to the old site in the past year and would like a refund of your hosting fee, please contact me and I will send you a check.
If you have any questions feel free to contact me anytime using the link at the top of the site.
