I titled this "Moving to LA" because I'm considering moving to LA. Anyway, I'm just wonder if anyone is seeking a roommate. I have a relative that lives in Glendale (either that or Glendora) I can't remember. The last time I was there was in '94. Does anyone here know what it's like for people moving to L.A. with no professional experience but a BS in Video Production. I will have that in May of '06.

I'm strongly considering moving to L.A. instead of Austin, TX because of the fact that I can't find any work in Austin.

I've noticed that most places in L.A. cost about 1200.00 bucks. Is this the standard and how hard is it to make 1200 a month in LA?

Thanks.

Good luck with the move.

Best places to live (for the cost) are probably Palms (by Culver City) or North Hollywood (in the Valley).

When I first moved here I got a 1BR in Palms for $800 - but also that was 4-5 years or so ago. The prices should still be under 1k for a 1BR in that area though.

I'd say bring enough savings to live on for at least 3 months without work. That will give you time to find some.

It took me about 2-3 months to find work here. But then again I moved here 4 days before September 11th, 2001 so job searching as a little...lets say...sparse for a while.

I pay $550/month to share a 2 bed/2 bath apartment on the border of hollywood/los filez--not the nicest area, but pretty centrally located for work.

Finding work can be tough. I would say it wouldn't be a bad idea to move with some cash in the bank or have a plan B in case you don't find work right away. It took me 6 or so months to really get going. I freelance, so I was getting jobs before that, but I was just barely scraping by, borrowing money where I could.

Move out here with at least $3,000 saved up. I interned at two places in Beverly Hills and commuted from Glendale for three months in a studio ($875). That was just enough for the first two months. I've found some work after the 2-3 month period, but don't count on getting extended work when you start. Joren has the right local, but I chose Glendale because I didn't want my truck vandalized on the street. If you choose Glendale, it is a bit further, so gas will be more for you, but the location is great, especially if you are closest to the mountain side. You are between Hollywood and Burbank and it's cleaner here too. Have a safe move.
