Why not do an anti-drug commercial? You can come up with some powerful, yet inexpensive ideas for it, and have good intentions as you make it (but don't insist on real props... Wink) I guarantee with enough thought, you can make a commercial a hell of a lot better than those really stupid and tame anti-drug ads out right now.

i have been thinking about it but as far as a script or a solid idea or how to show it, that's what i am missing.

trying to come up with a suicide one right now, but it is pretty much the same as the ones on TV. trying to make it interesting.

Well, I would brainstorm with you, but I think that would be cheating, and depriving you of the joy of your filmmaking journey, and the satisfaction you get at the end of it that your creation is truly yours. But I would watch movies like Fight Club, Requiem for a Dream, Traffic, and Memento for inspiration.

This isnt really on topic, more what dan was saying about the crappy anti-drug ads:

Im not sure about this, but i think the anti-drug commercials are made by the big drug companies. Thats why all the ads suck so much, cause the big drug companies dont really wanna convince anyone to stop smoking. Somebody correct me if im wrong, but it seems like a big scheme just so the drug companies can say that they are trying to promote "anti-drugs", but they really arnt doing that great a job of it!

My opinion is: "I would try something more artistic".

I'm not so sure an anti-drug commercial is the best way to sell your talents. May come off as a PSA. Which kinda says 'amateur'. Or maybe boring.

I'd bet there's something more interesting is all (and perhaps less political). What are some commercials you think look great? I'd start there.

You want something that "pops". You want that "WOW" factor. Something exciting!

Good luck with ideas. I'll think about some too. But in my opinion, the thirty-second script is as difficult to write as a short play or full length (if it includes a beginning, middle and end). I guess that's why the ad companies make millions each year!

I would love to write a commercial treatment about the anti-drug statement. I'm anti-drug so let me know if you'd like a treatment.
