I’m not a company, just an individual wanting to get the public interested in independent videos. What I want to do is hand out as many dvds I can to university students containing 2 shorts and a trailer. The number of discs I will be handing out will depend on how much money I can get from local businesses willing to sponsor this. As of now, I haven’t approached any. I’m hoping to hand out 400 discs, but the number will probably be 100-150. I don’t know at this point.

What I need are shorts (15 min or more)/trailers that are targeted towards students (19-27? male). I will not hold any rights to your work, I will just have the permission to distribute your work on dvd until you want me to stop. I can not pay for these shorts so I will not be selling the discs.

Why would you want to do this? For the sake of getting a wider audience and a chance to display contact info to your website (if your selling something, someone might be interested in buying it). That’s basically it.

Why wouldn't you just hand them a piece of paper with the sf.com url on it? I mean, they're all going to umivercity, I'm sure they've got better access to the internet than to a dvd player.

I believe that having a physical object is more satisfying for the end user than a url to go to.

I agree that internet access (broadband /wireless) is more accessible than a dvd player, but those that have computers to access the internet are most likely to have a dvd/cd combo drive. Also, having the video on dvd (encoded properly) would offer a higher resolution than a video encoded for the web (assuming encoded for max compression/faster download times, etc).

My goal is to find the people interested in such films and supply them monthly with new content. I believe once this can be established, shorts and self distributed features can make more money, maybe become profitable (not talking mega bucks obviously). The process will start off slow, but I believe it will work.
