If you're shooting a feature, I would set aside more than one weekend, and I would also recommend not using cheap consumer level cameras. How is it that you're shooting a feature but don't have any cameras?

if you can replace the broken cameras, why not just buy some? you can get some low-end Hi8/DV cameras for 150-250 dollars each.
