Thanks for the advice bsco and Allen! Not that I'm taking the side of FSU, but to elaborate on why it's a difficult decision, in all honesty I feel like FSU has a better program for teaching you how to direct a good film, especially if you want to go the writer/director route after graduating. Of course, USC is a fantastic school with a phenomenal reputation and connections and I'm sure they teach you how to make really good films as well, but FSU has won pretty every major student film award in the past couple of years (I can't remember which award it is, but some kind of oscar they've won more times in a single year than any school in history) and there are people signing deals with studios like Tristar and selling scripts straight from the program. Yes, the program is still in its infancy, but they want to compete with the LA and NY schools so badly, that they're ratcheting up notches on the scale at an incredibly rapid pace. They are working and trying harder than anyone else right now and I like that, probably because I can relate to it--they are dreamers who are young, inexperienced, and desperately want to prove themselves. I almost feel kind of like its similar to trying to catch Marlon Brando in his first performance in A Street Car Named Desire versus casting an old and proven actor like Al Pacino in The Devil's Advocate who does really well, but not brilliantly, in the role....it could be a huge mistake that you regret for the rest of your life, or it could be the thing that works the miracle for you. Just for me personally, I'm also the type of person who likes to pick the slight underdog in a race rather than the horse everyone else is betting on, so that's playing into my thought process as well. Also, whoever is planning their marketing scheme is an absolute genius. When I visited there I was blown completely away by how well they present themselves (from websites to in person) and at how impeccably they're organized. They made UCLA and USC look like kindergarden when it comes to marketing. I want that person presenting me to studios and trying to sell my film. That being said, UCLA and USC don't really need to market.... Sorry, I didn't mean to get so long winded/argue for FSU. USC is a fantastic school with an impeccable record--George Lucas went there for Christ-sake---I just thought I should explain my thought process so that I don't look like a complete idiot for considering Florida State. They're both great schools, I guess it just depends on what you're looking for. Film School is a risk, and it's gonna be a risk either way--they both have big pluses and minuses attached to them.... $200 k? ugghh. Ah! Decisions, decisions......
