EDIT: I don't know how interested other people would be in this idea, but I think it'd be great for people to upload photos of film grad schools they're interested in, or are currently attending--so long as they're original photos. Of course, you have to be comfortable with sharing your original work--your own photography--and I'm fine with this, as I like showing people new things. Feel free to take my photographs and do what you want with them. My art is meant to be shared--yeah, that line's for you, Bandar! Wink

I think this thread would definitely help future applicants in deciding which schools they would like to attend.

I know there's that saying, the "don't judge a book by its cover!" thing, but I don't think this is judging... more like nudging. Wink

Also, I don't think there are enough photos of grad school buildings and facilities out there. I'm the kind of person who craves seeing as many angles as possible on things--especially with the things I'm interested in, like graduate schools I'm applying to! (Although I only applied to AFI this year....)

One reason I like AFI so much is that it feels like a home--a home populated by dedicated filmmakers. Chapman is beautiful but I wasn't there long enough to get that vibe; I was there for less than an hour.

I was also at UCLA on Saturday, and although the doors were open all the lights were off (hence the prolific use of flash) and I didn't see any students in the buildings.

Please add any original photos you may have of film grad schools you have been to! Thanks!

I'm done!!! Eek Enjoy~~

oh they both look great! I'm on USC's campus right now so i can take pictures. Although I know they're really anal and don't let you go inside the buildings. But i can't upload the pictures until i get back home which won't be for a week or so. i'm going to chapman and afi soon too. so excited!

If you're here at USC what you really need to do is take a picture of the new SCA building that's being constructed. That's where the real action will be at next year.

Are these photos helping anyone out? ^^;

Let me know so I don't feel like I'm just wasting space here. Wink

Also, should I upload photos of different schools in different threads?

Thanks for any input!

These photos are working great. For those of us who can't readily make it out to our schools and take a look these photos provide a "face" to them. In the next few weeks I'll be doing my tours but this is a good preview. Thanks a bunch.

Do you have any more? Perhaps some more Chapman or even some UCLA photos?

Thanks cabezon! I thought it would be helpful, but I wasn't too sure. I do indeed have more of Chapman and even of UCLA, although I had to use flash a lot for the UCLA photos.

Do you think it'd be better if I uploaded them in their own separate thread?

This thread was a great idea Maseiya. It doesn't matter with the flash in my opinion. You should post them all in here. I've been to UCLA but that was a few years ago so any photos will help.

I think now that we're all in the midst of being accepted/interviewing/touring these photos will definitely come in handy.

keep em' coming!

Maseiya, thanks for posting the pictures. I haven't had a chance to get to L.A. to see AFI and a google search doesn't bring back much. Your pictures are a great help. Does anybody have any pics of NYU?

it's actually exciting. they told me i can go where ever i want as long as the door is open. i could also be super sneaky and go into places i'm not suppose to. i feel like a ninja.

side note: pardon the random weirdness in the above paragraph. i've gotten no sleep, too much coffee and sugar. therefore i'm a littly loopy.

What are you talking about redpokiepenguin, it's not too often people get to feel like ninjas. Wink

Do your ninja thing and show us what USC looks like!! I haven't been there yet, so I for one am definitely interested in seeing your photos.

maseiya-this may sound really really weird and it's freaking me out but i had a moment of deja vu with your pictures. now would be the moment where i can quote the matrix or not. i'll refrain. What i really wanted to ask is why is there a severe lack of people in the pictures?

Welllll that's a good question. Smile

I have a bunch of photos with people in them, but I didn't want to put any of those up for fear of those people finding this thread and being like HEY I DIDN'T GIVE YOU PERMISSION TO PUT PICTURES OF ME UP ONLINE!! and... yeah, that just wouldn't be fun. Frown

I actually waited for moments when there were as little people as possible within the frame to take these pictures. When I was out in LA last weekend I already had the idea that I wanted to share these with my friends on studentfilms! ^_^

Another thing--I visited AFI last Friday, and there were a LOT of students going in and out, so I didn't really ninja about... hence less photos of that campus to share with all of you. :< I visited both UCLA and Chapman on Saturday, and all the lights were off at UCLA (hence the flash!!) and I barely saw anyone in the buildings. And Chapman... yeah, I saw dozens of students, but they were all busy working on their film projects, so I didn't want to bother them too much. Smile

Deja vu? Awesome! I love those moments. Smile

Haha, I can actually get into the construction site at night, if that's what anyone wants (I know a secret entrance to the otherwise locked-compound Wink). I really like the look of AFI (I've never seen it), and the Dodge college building is incredible. But I wasn't very impressed with UCLA - though, as a USC student, I may be biased.

Another ninja! Big Grin

Yes, Cinematical... if you can get away with it... please show us the construction site! Don't get in trouble though, k. =)

I wish UCLA's East Melnitz building was lit up inside when I made that unofficial visit, I'm sure it'd look nicer... flash (whenever I use it at least) makes everything look flatter and uglier than normal....

When I interviewed I was really disappointed with UCLA's film school. I hope they renovate it soon. If anyone comes down to chapman to take pics (Ha ha I looked for myself in your pics) let us know in advance and we can get you in to our amazing folino theatre or the sound stages or foley stages for pictures.. or just generally come visit us!

=P
