Jayimess, that sounds so hard. I totally understand though. It does sound like you are really excited about usc and you've said that you would go there if you got in before which must mean something.

Though, ideas can change. I was all about NYU a couple of weeks ago, but I am currently totally over them and truly not just because I am still on the waitlist. Through all the talking and research and watching their films, I'm now definitely deciding between Columbia and UCLA.

I'm in crisis mode too, so I'm flying out to LA again this weekend and am going to talk to teachers at UCLA on monday and tuesday. I'm going to be really honest with them about my confusion, and see what comes of it.

Best of luck to you, you'll make the right decision either way.

Jayimess, one filmie to another: go to USC. You only do grad school once, it's a massive investment -- don't compromise! Go to your dream school.

I have to go do some sync editing, then I'm going to call USC and see what their offer is.

I really want them to make me an offer I can't refuse. I just don't think they will...I'm second string.

Thanks for all of the insights, guys.

hey sa - what happened with NYU? Curious because it's been my number 1 choice and I just agreed to go for production.

Thanks Philly!

Sa, you should really really really do your research on Columbia. Im not saying you should go there, but I am just letting you know YOU SHOULD do some intensive research. The program, I believe, is AMAZING! Ive done so much research. I spoke to some people at the Film Division who were on the board, students and faculty, they said that Columbia had 1000+ applicants this year, which was amazingly higher than any other year. So if you were selected, consider yourself 'awesome'. They are very very very humble compared to NYU, UCLA and USC because IVs have this thing, they dont at all promote themselves or advertise themselves at all, the expect the program to talk for itself through the students and alumni. Columbia is seriously going far and above. I honestly think the art of film is about 'storytelling' and doing so in the most PERFECT and UNIQUE way and Columbia is the best program for that. Look at the student academy awards and sundance; in the past few years it has had the most recognition in film festivals, and this year declared itself unmatched. I dont mean at all to advertise for them because I am going there. I know UCLA, USC, NYU and even Chapman have amazing programs, and I would never deny it. It all really depends on your intentions and what you want to get out of it. So maybe Ill see you this fall.

Thanks Tima. I definitely feel like I've done all the research I can stomach at this point...I love Columbia, but it's too expensive. I didn't get any scholarship and the $100,000 in tuition over 4 years is hard for me to wrap my head around...My decision unfortunately has become primarily financial.

In terms of the NYU question, I know it is an amazing school, but I'm more intrested in the storytelling aspects and have not been as impressed with the films coming out of NYU as Columbia. But if I were accepted, maybe my ideas on it would change, who knows.

Yes I know Sa! Financial aid is a biatch. Its actually more than 100k.

I got 25 in staff. loans, and 3 work study= 28k and still I am short 33k for the year. They estimate 62k a year. But the great thing about it is:

the program is 3-5 years right? YOu only pay full tuition years 1 and 2, the coursework years. The thesis years (3rd-5th year-depending on how long you decide to do your thesis) you only pay about 4k a semester!!!! And during your thesis years, or maybe the 5th year, and of course post-graduation you can take on teaching positions and fight off your loan by a lot.

Just something to think about. : )

Oh and dont assume NYU is any cheaper. NYU is actually more expensive, you also pay full tuition your thesis year. So thats like 65k a year for three years, as oppose to 2 years at columbia!

Hey, sa...

I'm personally losing my restless mind right about now. I want to go to USC, I've finally admitted it to myself, though I promised myself I wouldn't care if I got off of the waitlist.

The offices were closed on Friday for commencement, so I have no idea if there's any money on the table...but I assume there won't be, since I was a second-stringer, a last choice.

Yet somehow, I want to make it work so I can go to USC, even in light of UCLA's eager and generous offer.

Dangit.

Sorry, I've been busy searching for an apartment near AFI. I was thinking mid-July and that we could play it by ear as it is still pretty far off. We can do it a couple of times as more people show. Is that cool for now? Thoughts?

LATexan, don't forget the spring class. I would be in LA in December, and maybe (at least) one meeting then.

Jayimess, thanks for givin' me some hope the other day (and I loved yor movie)... By the way, you gotta update your forum's acceptance list again... YES! I just got a letter from Mr. Slowensky, and I'm joining Chapman for MFA - Producing. After being rejected from UCLA, and AFI (w/interview), I got accepted by Chapman right away. So "Hotel California" and "California dreamin'" are not that far away after all. CONGRATS TO ALL OF YOU TALENTED PEOPLE ON THIS FORUM, AND BE MY FRIENDS at www.myspace.com/tatalovic

p/s: Jayimess, Cleveland State U should be proud of us... Say "hi" to Cindy...

Think I found a place! If I'm approved, which I should be, I'll sign today. Two bedrooms for the price of one and less than a block away from AFI! Now all you cross country relocators have a spare bedroom to crash in.
