I got accepted to Chapman Univ. for Film production. The thing is, I got about 50% worth of scholarship. My Expected Family Contribution was calculated to be 30k, but the reason its so high is that my parents have a non-profit and have to have a great deal of savings for backup purposes. I assume the colleges were like, "hey, we'll take that" so I didn't really get as much as I probably could. Should I call up Chapman and explain this or try and work something out? If anything, I got into the University of Florida(no film program obviously) and basically have a full-ride there and it would be handy I guess for bargaining purposes. I guess this question goes to any current Chapman students or anyone who can answer it, but is Chapman flexible with its financial aid?
edit: btw, 50% tuition is like borderline for me between being able and not able to attend. I mean I don't want more than 4-6k a year in loans, and my family can probably contribute up to 8k/year at the absolute maximum.

But I have one concern. Can anyone help me? Its kinda like Winterreverie's. I have to mail them my 'enrollment confirmation' by April 16th. That is the same day AFI calls all the IN-directors and mails the rejection letters. So what should I do? Call Columbia for more time??? April 16th is literally giving me only 11 days to think about my decision!!!! (Which I still haven't made, but it would be nice to be sure)

I would contact the head of the department to see if there is any leniency as well as what financial packages are available as you are applying to other schools as well.
Maybe you'll be the first of us that gets to play the bargaining that Jayimess was talking about.
What schools did you apply to and what order are they in your preferences?
I applied to UCLA, NYU, Columbia, AFI and Chapman...
I got rejected from NYU and UCLA. I have not heard from Chapman yet. I got an interview with AFI. I got an interview with Columbia and got accepted.
Between the two Columbia and AFI, I still dont know which one I would chose. Still contemplating, and making a list of pros/cons. (But I haven't heard from AFI yet, so I cant officially contemplate)

I read somewhere in Columbia's materials that it's no problem to request an extension, but if you do, they ask that you request that extension as soon as possible.

I agree with BillyD, should be no problem getting an extension. I even heard that if a school really wants you then they will sometimes come back with a better offer if you end up rejecting them the first time. An NYU grad told me that at a Grad school seminar at my university in January. She said to not be affraid of rejecting schools if stuck between making a choice between two schools. She rejected NYU and was given a second offer with scholarship.

Ha, page 93... I thought you were just exaggerating. Anyway, congrats Tima! And I agree as well; it looks like getting an extension from Columbia shouldn't be much of a problem. Good luck with AFI and possibly having to make a difficult decision.

I havent called Columbia yet cuz its past 5pm. I will call tomorrow. I know I am rejected from UCLA cuz I got an email at 2am in the morning telling me I was. For NYU I received a letter. I think schools specifically the 5 major ones )NYU, USC, UCLA, COlumbia, AFI) have like a pre-imagined student body and so they interview those who they think will fit their planned pool. Maybe I didn't fit into their planned pool.

yeah Im still waiting on Chapman and AFI. So we will see. I am really in love with Columbia too, so it might be the hardest choice of my life.
Yeah, the rejections did not bother me much. For UCLA the deadline was so early that I nearly only 'half applied'. Like my personal statement was as ROUGH as rough can get, I only read it over once. And I don't know, I didn't at all put enough effort into applying there (mostly cuz of the deadline).
Although for NYU, I gave them most of what I gave to AFI and Columbia, except AFI and Columbia received a 15 page script (that i honestly think was MY FINEST PIECE OF ART) that NYU didnt get.
I got the rejection from UCLA like 3 weeks ago.
Thanks girls, Im gonna call Chapman tomorrow, cuz they are taking forever! I applied priority!

Tima- That's so weird. I got my rejection from UCLA at like 2am too. Did you see it then or did you wake up the next day and find its pretty little head sitting in your inbox? What a way to start off the day, huh? Thank you, UCLA.
And Jayimess- I got my rejection letter Feb. 28, if that adds any kind of peace of mind. Someone needs to go tap USC on the shoulder and tell them to start sending out the rest of their mail.
