Probably not...three reasons.
Ego: they didn't want me unless someone else didn't want them...doesn't work with boys, doesn't work with schools, either...as ridiculous as that sounds.
Finances: it's significantly more expensive than UCLA, and I doubt they can even match what UCLA's offering, which isn't nearly enough.
Impatience: I'm ready to start moving forward with my relocation plans. I can't wait another two weeks for something that might not even happen.
Are NYU and UCLA still battling out your sentimental fave Columbia, and did AFI even matter?

I've decided I can't pass up the opportunity at USC. CONGRATS to everyone that found out about AFI today!
Jayimess -- just in case you needed to hear it from someone else, I think you'll love UCLA (if that's where you decide to go.) After taking classes there for the past two years, I really think it has the total package. Great atmosphere, beautiful campus, and the program itself, although really intensive, has a great philosophy in getting writers ready to make the transition from student to professional. If you're focusing on writing features, you'll produce more work there than any of the other programs and that's a good thing.

Yeah, you pretty much nailed it on the head. AFI is 4th place for me at this point... what I really want to do it apply to their Women Director Fellowship after grad school.

I'm posting a section of a pvt message I sent to Lilly regarding her decision to move to go east or west for school. I thought other's might find it useful. -
" ...the only other program I would have applied for would have been UCLA. Being a CA resident would mean a significantly cheaper tuition and it's a great school in General. USC is great and all, but it is truly in the ghetto. I don't want to live there nor do I want to commute. Knowing me, I'd be late for half of my classes as a result.
The one piece of advice I have for you regarding your decision to go east or west, is if you have the opportunity to go to school in Los Angeles and that's where you want to end up, then take advantage of it. People who come here from the east coast have some catching up to do when it comes to a practical knowledge of the industry.
Of course, that's just my opinion, but I've worked out here for three years for big producers and agents, and that's what I've learned from experience..."

P.S. - If you have any questions about living and working LA, I'm happy to try and answer them to the best of my ability. I'm no expert, but I do know some stuff.

Just so you know, I am extremely excited to go to UCLA!!
Kinda seems like everyone thinks I'm bumming, I'm not in the least...I've somehow known I was going to end up there before I even applied...but USC was my childhood dream, and AFI was my reach school.
I didn't apply to any safety schools for a reason, so I wouldn't go anywhere I didn't want to be.
So, hooray!!

I think the only important consideration in choosing a school should be determining which school is going to help you tell the stories that you want to tell the most. Some schools are known for being more independently minded and others are more "industry."
A secondary consideration should be where you want to end up when you finish. You'll wind up with more and stronger contacts if you go to school in the city where you'll spend your career... not just students, also professors and non-students.

I gave UT Austin my acceptance on Friday. I am beyond excited, BUT I can't help but think I'll always have regrets about turning down Columbia (I didn't apply to their film program, I was in for their non-fiction writing). I only turned them down b/c I couldn't afford to go there. Who turns down Columbia? I'm going to go bang my head against a wall now...
You guys have some fabulous school choices which means you all are turning down some great programs. How are you dealing with that? Or are you just all so excited about the school you've picked that it doesn't matter?

Well done, Lishee...I know that was a hard choice to make. UTA is awesome, though...I didn't even apply because they only take seven screenwriters, so it seemed a *little* >;-)< hard to get into...
Without waiting for USC and AFI, I've decided on UCLA myself...I kinda always knew I would go there, but finances matter, too...so I know how you feel.
Off to repost the list...

Thanks for posting the list Jayimess, it's really interesting to look at and makes it easier to connect with those going to your school...And yes, I AM TOTALLY UP IN THE AIR! There are a lot of screenwriters on this thread and I'm glad you guys are at the deciding stages, but most of the directing programs still haven't notified (UCLA, USC, and I haven't yet heard from AFI or of anyone getting accepted or rejected there for directing). I'm visiting UCLA again tomorrow and USC thursday if any of the directing prospectives want me to ask any questions...
Ok so a little update...I spoke with Scott Hardman today and DID NOT get in to the AFI directing program. He said that he knows that I was in the final round where they were battling it out to see who they would choose.
It stings a little for sure, but honestly, I really would not have gone there as they aren't a fit for me and I'm not a fit for them. Rejection still sucks though...
Also, I spoke with someone in the USC admissions office and she said that MFA production candidates will hear about their admissions decision by MAY 1.
Um hello! These schools really need to coordinate their dates...I wonder if Columbia is going to give me an extension to my extension and if something will open on the NYU waitlist..geez. UCLA won't tell me until next week anyway...
I don't think I'm going to know where I'm going until the first week of MAY! Agony...
