To what other schools are you applying?

What the heck does this do for your application? Do they look poorly on you if you state you're applying to many schools? Do they like it if they're the ONLY school?

yes, I'm definitely in application stress mode.

I never fill that part out because contrary to what they state, I think they do factor it into their decision.

I'm in stress mode, too- more so because I'm only applying to two schools (one of which I really want to get into).

In what way do they factor it in? I mean, could it look bad if you *don't* answer the question?

I have no clue one way or the other, but you've now just made me worry about something I never had before. ;-)

Oh sorry, didn't mean to worry you... I just recall way back Senior year of high school a teacher saying that admissions officers weigh in the other schools you are applying to in their decision of whether to admit you or not. Sometimes they may decide that the other schools are better matches for you, etc. But then again, I'm not entirely too sure. Honesty is always the best policy.

I think they look at it to see what your goals are, and how clear they are. At my AFI interview, they mentioned that I was only applying to LA schools, and compared themselves to the other ones I listed.

It also lets them know who they're competing with for you...

Ha! Yeah. At my AFI editing interview last year, I produced a short film of my 2-day trip to LA, with footage of me right up to me entering the building for the interview. I then edited it on my laptop in the basement of the school, and showed it to them during the interview.

They were really impressed, and then asked if I would be doing the same thing when I went to New York for my NYU interview...

...and I made the colossal mistake of telling them that I'd already gotten my rejection letter from NYU! <slap!>

So the lesson is, kids: honesty *isn't* always the best policy after all! ;-P

I guess I was wondering...if you put a lot of schools do they think you're desperate? Or do they think you're hungry?

If you only put their school, do they think you're committed to them, or do they think you don't care?

AHHH.
