hello, my name is YOUNG.
This forum was really heplful while applying and waiting, going through all those nervous stage Smile.

I'm seeking out some quality tips in choosing school.

Right now, I'm accepted to Columbia and AFI (Producing) and kind of half half on both.

I want to start my career in LA, major studios (sub ones, such as focus features, Searchlight and so on, after degree.)

Well, I know the basic characteristic of both school and their difference in what they focus more. It's just that I never had official (i mean like institutional) film education and feels both needs for production & narrative training.

University vs Conservatory
NY vs LA
Production vs Narrative

well, I guess I could make it simple like that.
I would like to ask for honest opinions on my situation.

Thank you for your time.
Hope someone answers!

If you want to work in LA, you should go to school in LA. You'll have the opportunity to take internships and make local contacts while still in school. Can't speak to the individual program experience, but you'll be able to jump right in when you graduate if you already know the city and the people in it.

I agree. LA is a great place to be if you want to build relationships with those companies. Producing is all about the people you know and networking, so its best to be where your companies of interest are! I learned so much while interning in LA, for companies like Focus and Anonymous Content...for ex. They were always pushing for people that would make great producers/development execs.

On the otherhand, if you are more interested in becoming an independent producer (for low budget features, for ex.) then it'd go either way.
