although i am alumni, and remember using the site extensively while i attended the Academy of Art University in SF, I am in need of everyone's feedback and opinion.
i am about to update my DP reel and wondering what others thought (honestly) about the current one i have up and what I can do to improve it (errr, besides add more meaningless stuff)
your opinion counts, make it precise, specific, and harsh if need be.

Well, for one, I would ditch the Road to Perdition score and get yourself some original music to up your credibility. There are a bunch of composers who do scores for free, most of them listed in the classifieds section of the message board, so I suggest you poke around there and see what you can find.

Is it just me, because I loved a bunch of your shots and everything, but there were a few that were so dark I couldn't see what they are, Loved all the others tho!

Get rid of those shots in the desert with high contrast lighting (or no lighting?, the MCU of the old mans face etc.
Cut the trailer short to 2-2.5 minutes, focus only on the shots that shows your ability to light real well. The night-rain shots kikc ass and those will get you the jobs. Every shot that is lit looks great (or most of them). Some daytime ones look good but wont sell your ability as a DP...they are ok on a operator reel.
but very good stuff on that I wish I had that for my AFI application
best,

as far as LA bs, will deal with it and try to still achieve good work. love to still shoot in the bay area, depends on the project, script, and collaboration.

Oh my bad I meant "San Francisco Academy of Art" when I said SFAA, are you talking about a different school? And would you recomend the school now that you're out?
Anyway I was only half kidding about the "LA bs" as every community has their own special flavor of BS! It sounds like you have a great attitude and with a degree under your belt, a great reel and placing yourself smack dab in the middle of the industry you're well on your way! Good luck!
