So I normally go on with a long story about my past jobs in intros like this but I'll spare all your time because I know you are all busy working on some great movies haha
Long story short, between high school and college I went though a 4 year vocational school to learn 120 and 240V electrical wiring (electrician). Turns out its much harder to get into all that than I though so I'm now moving onto something new and since TV production has always been a fun hobby for me I thought it would be great to get into it for a full time job.
I'm currently at the local college learning all of this TV stuff from the ground up. Back in High school we had a new state of the art studio put in and so the last year I was there I got to take the class which I enjoyed. The college has good equipment but some of it is a little dated and all from what I'm used to using.
Anyways, I want to either get into editing or camera operator. Both seem like fun to me but I do lots more editing at home than I do camera work so I may want to just get into editing from the start. To top that off I'm going to bet certified with Avid editing software through the local college I'm going to.
At this point I have no idea where to even start looking to get a job at editing. I'm in CNJ and I've heard most of the production work is in NY so I can just hop on the train if I needed to get over there each day.
If anyone has any tips on getting a first job in the TV production field and any tips on what I can do in my spare time or at the college that would help me get a job please let me know.
One last thing, can you make a good living with this type of work????
Thanks for your time,
Dave S.
