My name is Matthew Hornbostel, I make videos (not films) with a strong bent towards visual effects, action and comedy. I'm 20 years old, I am a student at the University of Houston.
I've been messing around with video and VFX for six years now, but it's only now that I'm actually managing to get people to hire me in the animation field (albeit at low pay).
90% of everything I've ever done is viewable at my website,
http://www.hornbostelmedia.com.
That's over 4 hours of video, with over 1000 VFX shots.
Admittedly, not all of it is good (The old videos in particular are sometimes awful!)
I also have a few other things there - PC software I've developed (or am currently developing), a gallery of paintings, a stock footage pack (which is the only thing on the site which isn't free.)
I also am mentally ill, I have Asperger's Syndrome and OCD, I'm a Christian and take my faith pretty seriously, have been a member of a local youth group for years but am now phasing out of it. I'm an Eagle scout (and now assistant scoutmaster) with a local boy scout troop.
Some of those elements tend to filter through now and then - mental illness, faith, the youth group friends, the boy scouts...
But mostly I just try to entertain people.
And blow stuff up.
A lot of stuff gets shot at/moved at high speed/blown up/set on fire in some of these videos

Since I'm into VFX, y'know?...
So don't take these too seriously, they're just for fun, they're often incredibly ridiculous.
I'd like to move into an "auteur" phase, where I try to make a movie that's better-written, better-acted, more realistic, more complex, more professional and accessible, while still being fun.
So, that's mainly why I'm taking jobs right now, I'm trying to earn money to make a really GREAT movie, and I intend for my future work to be much better than the best stuff on the site right now.
After all, for $5000, you can create something that rivals multi-million dollar movies, if you know what you're doing.
So anyway, it's
hornbostelmedia.com.
I look forward to your advice and your help, I know there are a lot of areas where I can learn from you guys.
And maybe in some areas, I can help you and answer your questions.
I'm glad to be a member of this board.
