About me: Aimee Friedland
Allow me to introduce myself!
I'm Aimee. Originally from Tucson, AZ but have been living in St. Petersburg, Russia for the past year and a half
.
I am an [undergrad] student at St. Petersburg State University in coalition with Bard College. I wanted to transfer to either Bard or NYU for the 2007-2008 academic year, but I was rejected. So at this point it looks like wherever I go, I will have to enroll in a community college, and then hopefully transfer to a state school after a year.

Where do I go? Currently I live in a city of almost 5 million, which is too much for me. However, I would like to remain in a semi-cosmopolitan environment, if at all possible. Also it would be wonderful if I could find Russians and other Eastern Europeans to communicate with.

More about me: I'm a member of the "LGBT" community and would like to live in a city with lots of opportunities for meeting others like me, I love writing and filmmaking (both of which I need to improve upon), and lastly - I'm poor! I live off of $500 a month in Russia, which includes rent, transportation, food, and entertainment. I know that this won't fly in America.. but if possible it'd be nice to live somewhere where I won't have to starve to pay the bills.

Thank you!

Hey, I was born in Tucson . . .

Now I live in Chandler, and yes it is getting hard to get started on your own around here.

I make around $1,200 a month, which used to be pretty good at 20 years old, but I'm afraid thats not the case anymore :-(

Cost of living has gotten so high you need to be making at least $1,500 to live on your own. and that's pushing it.

So tell me, are Russians as obsessed with Vodka as the stereotype claims?

Check out Ohio University.

Great, cheap film program, cheap living, and it's a state school.

I love St. Petersburg, although it was Leningrad when I was there. The most plentiful thing to drink at the time was champagne, not vodka. (The water was not potable and bottled water was scarce.) They lost my sister's luggage and it was literally impossible for us to find a store that sold replacement toothbrushes. Not the case now, I'm sure. One funny thing: I did see a movie there that required a translator (no subtitles), except that the translator felt compelled to tell the audience how people were moving on the screen as well as what they were saying, as though we were blind. "Now the girl ees runnink to the boy. Now the boy ees kissink the girl." It was excrutiating to sit through!
