well i'll take each of ur questions one at a time quote: i dont get ur film
me neither, and i made it quote: did america go nazi on everybody's *sses?
yeah, it was set in the future where the world is low on resources and so they start taking over other countries for resources (like the japs in the south pacific in WW2, but after there was nothing left the american gov't went underground into bunkers and left the ppl to fend for themselves so they started eating ppl from other countries like canibals to stay alive so thats why the two characters are hiding out quote: did we blow the world?
not really in a physical sense, its meant to be metaphorical of a self destructive world and how even such destruction can create a form of beauty in itself, like mushroom clouds quote: is that what that final sequence from dr. strangelove is for?
well, its not the adsact same fottage from dr. strangelove, but its similar nuke footage. in this case though its not meant to be satiracle, just metaphorical, the nukes just went well with the feelings i was trying to prevent through the main characters. and although i am a big kubrick fan, it wasn't meant to be any kind of homage or tribute or rip-off of strangelove (which had the song "we'll meet again) while mine was supposed to me "the man who sold the world" (until i got original music)) ***disclaimer*** for any of u americans out there dont take this story personally, i mena my explanation for having america as the enemy is like that of "Raiders of the Lost Arc" - Nazis and the James Bond Films - Russians/USSR in that it is the only logical enemy, had it been set in the past i would have chosen the appropriate corresponding identifiable "empire of evil." because this is set in the future/post apocalyptic, and canada is just north of america (one of the largest borders too i believe) it was only logical to have an enemy of some sort for the audience to identify with, dont take it personally, without u guys down south we wouldn't have those great american made cartons for our eggs

nah nah i know...like "air force one" and all those real crappy terrorist movies. well coincidently ive made a film where canada is secretly building giant space mutant robot leaf-shooting hockey players underground and takes over north america w/ plans for the rest of the world. my brazilian heroes sing the theme song to the mickey mouse club at the end (as they had taken back only florida, and had a long couple of countries ahead of them) to represent their nostalgic ambitions to have things back the way they were. im fine w/ america being a bad guy in movies sometimes (its only fun and art), but did u really have to include that nazi footage? trying...to...hint at something...eh? oh yes, and welcome stuart

ok. well. a nazi has got to be one of the most horrible things one can be short of a person who stabs babies in their sleep....even if it is just a movie.... i mean i wasn't offended by making america a bad guy in a fictional film, but a NAZI? i mean a self-rightous jerkoff hebrew-hating NAZI? anyway that's all ill post since the last time i went off topic in one of these threads i got yelled at by every jerk w/ a mouth signed up at sf.com oh yes and welcome again stuart sorry ur intro took such a bad turn.

I hate you for making that movie HDK! I never wanna talk to you again! Nah, seriously, we need to be the bad guys every now and then. Personally, I think we should annex puerto Rico and you guys. Let's just get it over with! Just Kidding! But I think taking it to the Nazi level was a little too much. But hey, your movie.

yeah, I would agree that that was possibly an unnesecary aspect to the film, but you have to understand that I wrote the screenplay sitting in a Vancouver hotel room in April (I think) 2003, just as the bombs started to drop on Bagdhad on TV right in front of me and I was a little pissed off at well, everything. So I was watching "Apocalypse Now" to get away from it and I realized how much I loved the conversations and confrontations between Willard and Kurtz and used it as a basis for what kind of film I wanted, that and the current political climate lead to the screenplay. It wasn't until a yera later until I actually started production of the film. All the same, I stand by my film, hope you can pull something out of it.
