hello all i was hoping if someone out there has ever been rejected from a film program, but continued to apply until accepted? or just DIY? or know of someone who has a similar situation?
i dunno if i want to apply a fourth time because it's my junior year and i dunno if i want to spend an extra year in college as a "super" senior...besides i'm really afraid i'll get rejected again. this is probably my last chance to be accepted, but is it worth it? i'm currently majoring in Latin-American-Studies (i used to be undeclared, philosophy,) and now I just decided to add Anthropology as second major if I'm not accepted into Radio-Television-Film.
most likely i haven't been accepted due to my not so great GPA and i think it's because i haven't been able to take courses i really enjoy in college (so says my therapist), which equals lack of motivation. plus most of my friends have been accepted, so that makes me feel even worse.
should i just graduate with a liberal arts degree and just DIY digital film... an Film prof here at UT who knows Robert Rodriguez told me that i don't have to major in film to do film and he gave me Robert Rodriguez and Wes Anderson as examples...
don't leave me hanging, please, in need of some advice. greatly appreciated.
I think that right now digital film is much more accessible than when Rodriguez and Anderson were in their earlier years, that is very good news for you. A 3ccd cam and a macbookpro can go a very very long way now.
Everyone enters film school for different reasons and the fact that you have applied several times to the program shows that this is something really important to you.
Have you gone in and spoken with the head of the department you are applying for? Explain what this means to you, if it means enough for you to set up a meeting and spill your guts out to someone you have never met before. I know I would and have.
In the end I don't think a passion for filmmaking should be silenced because of access to a program. Rodriguez and Anderson are great examples of that. Take whatever is driving you to get into this program and should you not be accepted leapfrog into making the films that are important to you.
