i personally would choose Ryerson or York over Toronto Film School....it seems like a bit of a joke...especially if you aspire to direct.

I thought that too , till I talked to people who went there. They said that it was awful you scripted and did story boards for about 2 years primarly. 2 from Ryerson went to TFS and they loved it really confusing me O_o

it depends on the type of education you want...Toronto film school will be very hands on and you will definately get to do more actual filmmaking in a shorter period of time but will focus more on technical aspects of filmmaking. A 4 year degree will focus much more theoretical understanding of filmmaking balanced with technical aspects as well. I personally think that focusing on screenplays and storyboarding are essential because they help you to understand the relationship between story and image and how to communicate story through images. What exactly is it that you expect from your film education?

A basic understanding of how to operate cameras , how to edit , how to use the equipment. I mean I know how to script and storyboard lucky for me I had an advanced high school teacher in AV class who knew alot. With Film it is all contacts , portfolio and experience. If I go down the route of theory and technical pen won't help me as a portfolio as well. I was thinking of going to some Public Colleges as well Humber , Centennial , Sheridan. Where do you go or want to go?

if all you want to do is learn how to use equipment then i suggest you check out LIFT (http://www.lift.on.ca). I am a member of FAVA which is a similar thing in edmonton, and they have all the equipment, workshops on how to use it, as well as various filmmaking topics. Plus you will get to meet way more people in the toronto filmmaking community!

I am planning to not go to film school until i have completed a BA in something else. Then i will apply to a bunch of MFA programs (mainly in the US).

Thank you very much . Nah I want a diploma of some kind xD I will apply to some colleges around and the states seem more of a stretch . Its just I want to make the final production film from the school and entire festivals. Problem is we make a "short" film yet the movie I want to make is quite long although not feature. I have a script and I am keen on doing this on the future waayyy in the future. Have you done any shorts that I can see online?
