Recently I decided that I needed to start working on pieces to compile in my demo reel that would be related to my pre-visualization/ conceptual animation career interest. I got working on a shot in which a fiery bomb crashes through a cathedral building and does some hefty damage. I got distracted, and instead of actually taking the time to model a photo-realistic church, I decided to paint a matte and composite the 3D effects over it. (the background can be swapped unnoticed because the bomb makes a lot of smoke)



I enjoyed painting those background destruction effects in Photoshop, and it really sparked an interest in me for matte painting compositing, so thats what I've been doing for the past week or so

These next two are from a Western film that I abandoned a couple years back...I had some great shots, but the locations were quite unrealistic and really killed the mood. So I thought I would try to tackle a showdown scene and give it the location/look it deserved. (I may put the video clips up on youtube as well?)







I'm not a professional at all, but I am learning and enjoying it.

Yeah i totally missed this before too, they look pretty good!!!

Hah yeah... guess I never saw this one either. But yeah man, the church is good, but the western is just awesome.
