I just recently bought a Firewire card on eBay. Well accully it also had 5 usb's. I pluged it in and windows installed the drivers. Upon trying to capture video from my new JVC DV camera, I decovered that the digital video that I captured was jerking and had alot of frame loss, at least half of the frames were lost. I don't know what it is or why it's doing this?? Is it my CPU or is it a cheap junk firewire card or WHAT?? I used five different programs to try to capture the video and they all do the same thing. Please, if anyone can help...

How fast is your CPU? And yes it could be the card. You can get cheap ones at Best Buy that work fine for under $50.

Could you name the model of firewire card and motherboard you have?

And everything you can find at Best Buy you can find for 1/3 of the price on eBay (shipping price included)

I got a Intel P4 1.7GHZ, I GIG Ram, a second 120GB hard drive and my motherboard is a gigabyte GA-81845GV-MS. I've also got a Nvidia Geforce FX 5200 graphics card... Oh and the Firewire card just says '5 USB 2.0 + 3 Firewire 1394 Combo PCI Card' and in device manager it says 'VIA OHCI Compliant IEEE 1394 Host Controller'.

I'm not exactly rolling in cash at then moment... the cards excelent when pluged into a better PC, no frame dropping or anything.

you dont have to be rolling in cash for nine bucks but you can just build a new comp by saving up and not smoking
