So, you still have two project files, but the first one is empty? Or, did you're second project file overwrite the first one? don't know what to tell you. You might try to unerase it using software that searches the media looking for files that are unassigned by the directory (i.e. erased).
This might be a hard-learned lesson. Make sure you upgdate to FCP 4.1 when this whole thing is resolved.

you may be able to salvage some if it if you go through your renders for the file. Obviously you wouldnt have the ability to edit what you did, but its something at least. This is exactly why i make periodic backup files of all of my projects, particularly when working with video or flash. I also periodically dump to my DV camera - just in case.
sucks. good luck.

All I could get was what was in the restore function... I've been reading my FCP4 book and it says something about reconnecting the media but I'm not sure if that's what happened. I just wish I knew what I did... I don't think I'm going to be getting the information back.... sucks too. I was almost done! I had 40 seconds of footage left to edit... Now, I don't know... :P
Something similar happened to me but I was able to get everything back. Yeah, along with these guys, I'm not exactly sure what happened and why that sequence just disappeared. All I can do is reitterate updating that software. It fixed a lot of issues for me. Also, I have my autosave set to every 5 minutes. Even set to 20 mins. would be fine, however for me 5 mins can be a lot of work. Good luck.

i understand you went through the restore function but have you looked for the raw renders on your hard drive?
if the sequence itself is missing then reconnecting media aint gonna do squat. im not sure if 4 shows this the same way, i have fcp2. but reconnecting footage is only for files that are offline, i.e., a reference to a video file. these are represented on the timeline by clips with red slashes through them. unless these are present, reconnecting wont reconnect anything.
