Hey everyone I'm currently attending my last year at High School and I've noticed that there are sites like Journey Ed that sell discounted software for students. I'm curious is there such thing but for computer..i'm trying to stir up the money for a Mac G5 computer.
First I must congratulate you on a smart purchase of the G5 [can you tell I own one?] Newayz, you can actually go to an Apple store [if there is one near you] and they can give you the student discount on the G5 and any software that you may want to purchase. This is actually how I bought my G5 [I saved a lot!] Or, if there is no Apple store near you, you can buy one online Apple's Online Store If that link doesn't work, go to apple.com and click on "store" and there should be a link to their educational discounts. Just tell them which school you go to and you'll be all set. Good luck on your future purchase!

Yeah I was extrememly happy when I got mine, and then really pissed off. Why? Because I got the PowerMac G5 1.8 Ghz, and then about 3 months later they came out with the DUAL 1.8 Ghz for about the same price. Yeah, I must admit that Apple lost some points with that move, but what are you going to do [More like what am I going to do]?

If you happen to go to COMPUSA (where i decided to buy mine from, since apple takes to long with the dual 2.5's) you can substitute the discount with Apple Care, which is what i did. Plus, 6 months same as cash beats the crappy 3 months Apple gives you... did i mention the interest rate is lower too?
My 12 cents (Sorry, Inflation)

I just got a mac laptop for work and I'm absolutely loving it. I still think my 5 year old 867 MHZ quicksilver is just as fast, if not faster (than the laptop with twice as much ram, twice as fast processor, and twice as much VRAM). But I love the portability. I got one of those airport express's to tie into my home network. As it turns out, there was 5 other WiFi networks from my neighbors I can tie into--so I'm stealing internet right now. But I absolutely love airtunes and the wireless printer capabilities. It's simple, yet amazingly liberating. And I can use my bluetooth phone to connect to the Internet anywhere I have a phone reception (on the road, on location, etc).
Technology can be really cool.
oh, yeah, the reason I posted was to suggest you see if www.macwarehouse.com or www.clubmac.com have computeres in stock. But you'll probably need to go through the apple online store or your local apple retailer to get the student discount (which is normally 10-15 percent off).
And if you do decide to order software through an online place like journeyed. Go to student films and click on the banner (to show Chris some love).
Well for the PowerMac it was $2,199 [all of these prices are after the student discount], $599 for the Apple Studio Display, $249 for the extended warranty [We'll see if that kicks in for a new G5, heh] and finally, one of the most useless/overpriced Apple item is the .Mac account. Such little space [100 MB] and limited things you can do with that thing. You do the math for the total. I'm depressed at looking on Apple's website. If I'da just waited one year, I coulda had a Dual 2GHz. [Shakes head] By the way, they got an iMac G5 now.

I don't think anyone mentioned this, but some schools have deals with Apple and other retailers, and they usually have an on-campus store that only students can buy from. And they will sell you the computers, other hardware, and lots of software taht the discounted rate.
I also know that the Apple store has a college online store, where you can input your college, and it will give a list of items you can get at a discounted price.
