Okay... Jason... i hope you can answer this... or anyone for that matter...

I got a gig that required about 80 copies of an hour and a half program that I made. After the dubbing house made the copies, I checked a few random DVD's in my player to make sure they worked.

After distributing the discs, about 10 DVD customers complained of a type of pixalation into freezing during different parts of the video and some occuring during the same segment.

My client brought over some of the DVD's today and we checked where they messed up in her DVD player, but to her suprise, they did not mess up in mine.

Does this mean that the DVD-R can be played in older models of DVD players, but just not as well resulting in disrupted play?
In all other cases that I have dealt with, the DVD player simply did not recognize the DVD-R disc, and that was in technology about 5-6 years old.

If anyone can shed some light on any of these areas I would appreciate it.
This part of filmmaking can be very frustrating at times, which you gotta learn the hard ways.
