hi, i need some soundeffects from a movie, which is encoded in divx. its a .avi file. i tried to import it in avid and premiere already.
in avid i just see a white screen and in premiere i can actually see the film but i cant put it on the timeline (it just appears a black screen).
does anyone know something about this?

Avid can't get sound only, because it's video editing. I have the same problems as you when I try to import Divx into Premiere.

Perhaps this is what you're looking for: Audio Extract.

you can look for a divx to avi convertor online somewhere, i had to use one to get an xvid file to work properly with premiere. Another option to look at is to just record teh sound. My sound card (audigy) has a setting to "record what you hear" which means it records any sound playing within the computer. So it can capture audio off of websites and any movie thats playing on the comp.

Give the guy some easy options! Does he have to buy a new soundcard / vegas 5? No!

Just try and look on google.com / download.com, I'm sure you will find something useful overthere.

I don't think you can rip audio from an .avi file because of the way it is compressed with the video.

yes, its pretty easy. it works like any editor program.
start virtual dub: --> FILE --> open video file...
--> then just set in and outpoint for your desired sound
--> file --> save WAV

thats it.
