I am buying an external hard drive for editing purposes. What should i be thinking about? At least 7200 RPM? Is USB 2.0 connection enough?

No. Make sure it is Firewire. USB 2.0 can't sustain the data transfer rate, and the video will lag from time to time. 7200 rpm should be fine. The G-TECH drives are quite nice, if a bit pricey.
