I used to be a PC guy. I always sided with the PC users on studentfilms.com. Then I got a Mac because the journalism program at Mizzou requires a Mac. I bought FCP HD and began editing. Now....I am COMPLETELY mac. I have seen both worlds, and I now consider myself an idiot for ever thinking PC was better. Macs are way more proficient, easier, faster, and they hardly ever mess up. Get a mac. Even if you can't afford one.

i'm a PC guy. a well maintained PC is as good as a G5. start off using whatever you've got. I've got Vegas 5 on a decent PC and it runs great. However, I had Vegas 4 on a non so decent PC and it also ran great. Use whatever you're comfortable with and whatever you can afford... 1500 mac or 600 dollar PC.
I've got both. My mac G5 notebook was a waste of money for me, as it sits on a shelf and collects dust. My desktop PC (and my notebook) both get used all of the time. I'm not comfortable on the MAC platform, as it feels flimsy. Also, Vegas isn't on a MAC. I love Vegas, especially after using Premiere, AVID, and FCP. Maybe you'll feel differently.
Happy Holidays.
could I have that dust collecting G5 notebook for nothing then? =P - Wesley Winterswijk Special Effects Artist

wait! holy guacamole! there are G5 notebooks?!?!?!?!?! when'd that happen? he's right though, if you're more comfortable with a windows machine that should influence your decision. go to your nearest apple store and ask one of the black t-shirted people to show you Final Cut Pro on one of the demo macs. you'll know right then which way you want to go. | PerryKroll.com | TRC | "If not actually disgruntled, he was far from being gruntled." Rocksolid machine!? Oh, do you mean how they are sealed up tighter than a dolphins rear end and you cant really do more than upgrade the RAM? Or are you refering to their awesome ability to just freeze for no reason, and serve as nothing more than a ROCK, or PAPERWIEGHT? And these also make great doorstops. Bet most of you didnt know that. You buy a mac, you better get it made with all the stuff you want in it, otherwise you are going to be rellying heavily on EXTERNAL drives and devices. In my opinion, PC's are so much more flexible. As for software, all Mac has going for it is FCP, but personally, I find FCP to be lacking alot of the fine tuning capabilities of some other editing progs. But lets face the reality, everything I said is opinion. And everyone here will have their own. The Mac vs Pc issue USED to be much clearer. Mac (as much as i dont liek to say it) used to be the way to go for video editing. Now PC's have caught up. Even when PC's were rising, alot of video studio used adapters to use a Mac monitor on a PC, as the Mac monitors had been color depth and resolution. This isnt the case anymore. Now it is strictly a matter of preference. Some companies will tell you mac, some will tell you PC. You should get yourself familiar with both, but as far as what you get for yourself, get whatever you are more comfortable with. quote: Originally posted by LiQuId: However, it [a Mac] isn't good for games [just get an Xbox].
If you want to play alot of games when you arent editing, then this will tell you that you probably want a PC. There arent nearly as many games made for Mac as there are for PC, not even close.

So I'm using a new dual processor G5 at work and a badass custom built PC at home. Which do I like better? Well, I like Final Cut Pro if not simply just cause I'm using one of those editor's keyboards that have the shortcuts labeled on the keys and that's helping a lot. Also, I love the fact that in FCP you simply have to press the up or down arrow to jump to the very beginning or end of your cuts, that saves all the time in the world. Thirdly I've been using FCP more often to actually edit at work and have yet to really push Premiere Pro to its limits. On the other hand... I love my PC at home, it hasn't screwed up on me any worse than the work Mac has yet. My very first computer was a Mac, but I switched to PC a few years later. I'm so used to the PC format now the Mac OS, really bugs me quite often. With what I've done with Premiere Pro so far, it has worked great. The biggest differences I'm finding are more with the keyboard shortcuts than anything else. I think both machines are great, but personally, right now, I prefer my PC at home, more than likely though it's because it's mine where the Mac isn't. Helpful? I thought not. elliott.
