yes - you do need to buy something. basically, the video files are MPEG-2, but there's a lot more too it. all sorts of standards, and file structures and things that no mortal could do alone.

if you're on an apple iDVD is already there for you. on windows you'll need to look around for a cheap DVD encoder.

didn't something come with your DVD burner?

I'm pretty sure these only work on PC, but TMPGenc can convert various files to mpg, they also make a dvd authoring tool, both of which have free trials. You can also check out Videohelp which has a lot of articles and resources on how to author dvd's

iDVD, eh?

Well, it's not in my app folder... I'll presume it's still on my OSX disc then... stupid installs.

Edit:

I can't seem to get just one individual app off the disc... I know I could at one time, ie. Garageband... this angers me.
It only gives me the option to reinstall OSX. For obvious reason I would prefer to avoid that.

I acknowledge my stupidity involving Mac's, I'm still a n00b really.
Help please?
Thanks...

do you have an iLife disc? it'd be on there. if not - hmmm.... look for some sort of applications folder on one of the discs. it really SHOULD be there. unless your DVD drive is not an apple internal one. is it?

I believe my iLife should be on one of my "software install and restore" discs, no?

yeah it should be. if iDVD came with the mac it'll be there somewhere. look around for folders that are hidden down below the installer icon and things. sometimes they hide the separate things like that. i dunno what else to tell you.

if you have OSX 10.3, you can reinstall OSX and all the programs, and also save the files you have now, it'll ask you, and then you have a bunch of options. I think it has something to do with OSX being on a separate partition than everything else.
