Every animation package is going to be intense overwhelming...at least Blender is free and there is a stable network of users to help you along personally. Also in my opinion Blender has the most common-sense easily-navigable interface, and it's potential is endless. But keep in mind if you are wanting these objects to be photorealistic enough to be composited seamlessly into live-action footage, you may need to learn a lot more software than just a 3D Animation Package...you will probably have to be fairly proficient in Photoshop, After Effects, perhaps an alternate modelling...a lot of skills for one person to know, which is why most of the work in the industry is done by teams.
