I shot a clip that was too short, but would piece together nicely if shot once in forward, then once in reverse... trust me. And I think I've done it before, (ages ago), but I do not have any idea how I did it.

he is right about the negative numbers, but there is a sticky little fluke about this. once reversed, if you want to resize the length in the timeline, be aware that if you grab the front end of the clip it will shorten the tail end of the video, and vice versa. one of those nice little crap things about premiere 6.5 because you are not actually reversing the clip, you are telling it to play at a negative speed or duration.
