I just heard and read about this product from Avid...it's a limited version of Xpress DV with 2 video tracks and 2 streams of RT FX but it is FREE! (a little like the FREE version of ProTools)

Crazy.

Check it out:

Thanks for the info, Chris. I've always wanted to try AVID (since I started this little filmmaking journey of mine!), but could never afford the product. The student-discount package never applied to me, and I may be crazy, but I can't bring myself to download pirated software. I guess I just put myself in their shoes - if they downloaded and used my short films/images without my permission, I wouldn't like that.

I'm excited to be able to try AVID and compare it to PREMIERE (which I use). I just hope it isn't so scaled down that it's too basic!

Thanks again for the link.

From reading the press-release it sounds like it is just like Xpress DV with 2 tracks of video, 4 tracks of audio, and only 2 streams of real time FX.

I still consider Vegas Video 3.0 to be the best software, considering that it has NO track limitations.

Xpress DV has 8 tracks of video and unlimited tracks through nesting.

(You can step into a track too add more FX etc)

Yes it would be nice to have more tracks...but you can get around the limitations.
