Hey, I have saved up some cash for the last year and a half now and am going to buy a new digital camera. I can't decide between these two:
1)Canon XL1S minidv camera or
2)Canon GL2 minidv camera
Both are quite expensive and I'll be using this camera on all my upcoming projects...and there are quite a few(kinda goes without saying). I'm torn between both sides on this issue. I use the GL2 in my Broadcast Class, so I know it like the back of my hand, but the XL1S is said to be a great camera with interchangable lenses...so I don't know. Help?

A little floor spice makes everything nice...

Where are you buying an XL1S from, since they dont make it anymore? Would you buy the GL2 new or used? What price have you seen the XL1S used for? The price will be a big factor in the decision.

Personally, the interchangeable lens argument shouldnt be a factor in the decision unless you are planning on buying another lens. I am considering the XL2, and in my case I would be using other lenses b/c i have a digital rebel with a few lenses, including a 300mm telephoto, and the $400 adapter for the XL2 to use that lens is tempting. But unless you have a similar plan, i wouldnt count that as a reason.

I would, however, say that the lens by itself is a reason to go for the XL1S. as good as the GL2 is, the XL1s's lens is definitely a superior piece of glass. All, of course, assuming the used one you find is in good working order.

I'd personally look at the Panasonic DVX100. I have one currently, and for it's price, it's the best bang for the buck imho.

I second that Brice. The DVX100a blows the GL2's quality right out of the water.
