are you looking for something more complex than FCP's text tools? They are very powerful. Plus, you can also create your text/graphics in photoshop and directly import them into FCP and animate them to your hearts content. So, if you're looking for something easier than after effects, I'd stick with FCP for your text tools. Also, check out live type and/or motion. They integrate seamlessly with FCP and offer all kinds of different text/graphics options.
