are you wondering how to capture or how to edit it?
FCP can't capture stills via a firewire device. You'll need to capture a video clip that contains the stills you want. In prefernces set the desired duration of still pictures (for stop motion it'll be 3-7 frames probably). Then shift-n makes a still picture of the current frame in the canvas. And just drag each shot onto your main timeline.
If your using a digital still camera, import all your pictures into FCP by using file> import> import filder. Set the still frame duration like above. Then drag the entire folder onto your timeline. Assuming the pictures are sequentially labeled (0001,0002, 0003, a, b, c--most digital cameras do this anyway), your frames will appear in the corect order.
best of luck, joren

I have done Numerous Stop Motion Movies on Final Cut. Althought herer is probably More than one ways of doin it, You must Split up Every Clip and Make each one to the same amount of Time, such as 1 frame. You can do this or take the entire Clip and speed it up under Modify, then Speed Change but this way is worse. Sure This process is Ass Wrenching, But then again that is what stop Animation Calls For. Kung Fu Naked Mole Rat Studios

it seems like you should be able to program an fcp plug in to do stop motion, or maybe someone else has! i keep meaning to learn how to do fcp add ons, the language seems realitivly simple compared to other stuff i've learnt.

Dude, you might want to try Macromedia Flash to do you stop motion movies. (You know, if you aren't opposed to downloading and pirating software and all.) It's an animation program that's easy to learn and better suits stop motion than probably FCP. If you wanted to do good soundwork taking into FCP later and tweeking with it would probably be a good idea. With Flash though, you could draw and animate your own special effects over the pictures if you wanted to add say, blood splatters or laser beams or what-not. Seeing as stop-motion is a form of animation, Flash would be a better choice than FCP. I feel that I understood editing programs a little better than everyone else, in the beginning, becuase I started using Flash years before I even knew what Premeire or Final Cut were. If you want pointers on your next project you can e-mail me at giawho@yahoo.com. I'm not the greatest animator, but I know enough about Flash to help you get started.
It looks like stop motion pro does exactly what premier can do...which is to save frames directly onto ur computer strait from ur camera...the only disadvantage is that you must film all ur fotage right next to ur computer, depending on how long ur firewire cable is.
