I am making a short film on my powerbook using Final Cut Pro and I need some short  clips  of video games. Is it possible to capture video from a PS2/xbox/gamecube to my poowerbook? If so can someone tell me what I need?

It should be! What you need is an analog capture device, to convert the analog video signal (either the S-Video, or the yellow video plug) and the analog audio (red and white plugs).

Some camcorders can serve as an analog to firewire passthrough. Basically, you put the camera in VTR mode, attach the game console to the cam, attach the cam to the powerbook with firewire, open FCP, set it to capture from a 'non controllable device' and capture.

If your camera CAN'T do that you need a box. The PYRO AV/LINK is the best I know of.

For one of my editing projects, i made a visual demo of the videogame ICO.

i hooked up the playstation 2 to my GL1 camera, and used the small LCD as the tv screen. i just hit record and played the game for the length of the tape. solving the puzzles and moving the camera around in the game.

i made sure to walk certain directions and get certain shots.

then i just digitized the miniDV tape, and cut a demo from that.

RFranco's method should work even if the cam won't work as a passthrough. The box costs about $150-$200 and is kind of hard to find. Check CNET.
