So seeing as Ive already reformated my pc earlier this year and its already starting to develop new problems, (probably because I made the mistake of going to ebaumsworld using internet explorer instead of firefox lol) I decided I was going to get myself a nice safe mac for my editing, seeing as mac's are the preferred computers for such work anyways.

I'm pretty set on getting a Macbook Pro. I dont want another desktop. So Im finally getting to my question. Would you recomment upgrading the ram from 2gb to 3gb, and should I pump the hard drive up from 160-200.

I figure Ill eventually get an external hard drive anyways so I think I should just save myself on the hard drive upgrade. But can anyone tell me if the 600 dollar upgrade to the 3gig ram is really worth it? Thanks

well i guess it depends on how long you plan to keep the computer. if you plan to keep it for a few years then i would say upgrade because as software gets more advnaced it uses up the ram. then again i guess $600 is a lot and you could always upgrade later if you wanted to, so really i suppose its your call. but either way mac is definitely the way you wanna go. i have a powerbook and i think its the best piece of technology out there. i've had it since february of '06 and i have yet to have a virus, bug, crash, or any other unwanted activity. =)

I'd say the 3GB ram upgrade isn't going to do that much for you at first. Before you get a MacBook Pro read about all the weird stuff that's happening with them (discoloration, overheating, "mooing" etc) and make sure you're aware of issues.

I would recommend a large internal drive, but I'd also recommend getting an external. It just helps to have multiple drives.

thanks for the opinions guys. Ill look into those problems before I go with the macbook titanium

I think if i do get the macbook ill go with the 2gb. The general consensus seems to be i dont need the 3 gigs now.

titanium do you know if those problems have been occuring with the new 15 inch and 17 inch mackbook pros they put out?

i looked stuff up online and i found stuff about a hissing sound coming from the laptop and overheating and stuff. But it all seems to date back the jan-march range before they released the 15 inch and 17 inch mackbook pros. So im wondering if they fixed the problems or not

Hmm... I know very little about the problem, except that it was a problem.

Well with the launch of the core duo 2 the originals, which crank some power have come down. If you want this machine for awhile I would go with the newest. I agree with upgrading the ram by yourself. It's cheaper and not really that hard. 2 gig is fine. You are not going to see much difference with that extra amount on a laptop. Now for the hard drive. I would say keep the one it comes with and use the money to build one or get an external. They are coming down in price and newegg again will have a good selection and prices. The internal drive should be used for apps and personal stuff. Video should go on an external just because the space and transportation if needed. I would say 2 gig and a 320 external would be best as well as saving some money.
