If you were using a Mac, I'd say iMovie. I don't know of any free Windows editing applications that are even close to half decent.

In my opinion, WMM would be the best option when using freeware editing. It has quite a lot functions for a freeware program. Maybe download.com has something to offer.

Cheap editing software which is good, would be Pinnacle from my point of view, it's easy and has enough options.

Yeah check out www.download.com they have a lot of software. Some of them are just demos, but with some of them you can use them for as long as you want, you just use them for "commercial" use legaly.

a nice cheap editing program i obtained for my younger cousin is Sony's Movie Studio. It's the precursor to Vegas 5, and while I didn't use it to edit anything insane, I did help my cousin with a short film that this software did just fine with.

A very nice, low-proced editing program is Video Explosion Deluxe. Its a Sonic Foundry Product and the interface is very similar to that of Vegas 5. You can find online for about $80.
