Welcome, OTG, to the SF boards. While you do have valid opinions and well-thought-out arguments I hope that in future posts you will refrain flaming. Thanks Smile

LOL, thanks Jeff! Smile

I don't think the camera would see the ladder if it was moved correctly. Like I said, I really didn't think all of the movements through when I thought of it.
The picture is lookign toward the actor, so the ladder is on the actors right side.

So the camera would sweep up behind the actor, come up, turn to the actors left, and come back down to look at htis face. You probaboly won't get to see the top of his head and swivel all around like the original shot planned, bu tits close enough I think.

Can we not have this discussion everytime hdk makes his anti-artistic remarks, which is in my opinion what his remarks are... however hdk has some good points, and in a filmmaking world that is currently dominated by special effects and therefore artistic side of things his pro-creative views are very welcome.

free speech and opinion is a part of this community i though this issue had been sorted ages ago in an agreeal to disagree. unfortunately it hasnt, why cant we just move on?

sorry, i have a problem, and there's no cure coming anytime soon Big Grin

an opinion is not a problem HDK, just sit back and let people disagree, cos when we focus on opinions we arent answering the question.

Thanks for clarifying. I was under the impression that the actor had his back to the ladder... my bad.

so far there isn't much reason for this big camera movement.

the camera isn't the viewer/audience, because they are moving way too much and in too many directions to be the audience. so what is it supposed to be? god? an angel? a ghost?

when you have the camera moving that much, it becomes a character, and you have to really put across who that character is.

do you have camera movements like this in other parts of the film that aren't necessarily overhead shots?

because you might spend all this time on this shot, and when you edit it, have to cut the entire thing out because it throws the pacing completely off.

does the camera always have to be a perspective of somebody? I don't think it does in this case. If anything, it could recreate the feeling of nausea one gets when they look over the edge of a building. (i love that feeling). If worked correctly, the audience would pick that up and feel what the character would be feeling.

Its okay, brain, its a crappy picture Smile
