I've used adobe premiere's media encoders before to make svcd's and it's worked great! But now all of a sudden(I haven't changed any settings) when I make the movie file, it makes it into two seperate files! one for audio one for video???? help?(Premiere Pro) It does this when i try to encode for dvd's as well.

those are elementary streams, which you can import into your favorite DVD authoring software and it will mux them all by itself.

is it a safe guess you have switched to 1.5 from 1.0 in the interim? media encoder was changed since then, and now works like it is supposed to - with two seperate streams. It's supposed to do that.

When it asks me when i want to encode for a dvd or svcd in one pass will this make it into 1 file? Can I assume if i change the settings to two passes this will make it into two files? could this be what i'm doing wrong?

( I haven't changed interim, my properties say version 7.0 is it safe to assume this is version 1.0?)

nope - two pass or one pass determines just that - whether it encodes in one pass or analyazes it first, then encodes it. If you are looking to go to an SVCD just encode an MPEG 1 file. If you are encoding a DVD in mpeg2 then you will get two streams, simple as that.
