My question is, has anyone tried TMPGEnc (tm) to encode DVD-MPG2 files with?

And do you know of any encoders that produce fewer artifacts and better looking images on playback of the DVD than TMPGEnc (tm)?

Hey,
I used and bought TMPEnc and love it a lot. I put my HDV through a VirtualDub downrez with Msharpen 1.2.1 filter and then feed it through TMPEnc to create the .m2v for DVD. After a lot of trial and error with HD --> DVD workflows, in my opinion it is the best MPEG encoder.

Dan, since you're outputting to uncompressed it doesn't matter what program you use. I would use Premiere Pro, but I think a lot of programs have the capability to output to BMP.

Uncompressed AVI, I also use Premiere Pro there, but I know VirtualDub will do this for you as well. And that's a free program.

Dan, it was captured with a Sony FX-1 and Brevis imaging adapter, although for some reason my post seems to have been deleted.

here's the link again:

I believe it was a Canon FD 55mm f1.2 lens, probably wide open.

I should add that I haven' been as impressed with the Brevis' HD quality but downrezzed to SD the image is beautiful.

Hey Dan,
I must've seen that milk girls example on what was probably the very first day it was posted online. Indeed, it impressed me very much.

That group "shoot off" sounds like a great idea...although I've got to ask where the moolah would come from to finance all those setups and transferring to film especially.

A lot of your posts here tend to be very technically oriented, and I feel like you might find yourself a bit alone in that respect here on studentfilms.com. You would be better suited to post your inquiries on a forum such as dvinfo.net, I post there quite often and I think you would find a multitude of people in your league of expertise to exchange information with.

For instance there is a RED-dedicated subforum, two or three threads in the Alternative Imaging forum dedicated to using the Elphel 333 camera for HD imaging, ( here ) and an overwhelming amount of resources for information.
