I have shots using a canon xl1. The xl1 is quite nice, but it is still a dv camera. It seems like some films at studentfilms.com have that "Film Look" to them. It may be some sort of color correction or perhaps the film's screen size. Can anyone offer adivce about reproducing this film look using software like premiere pro or after effect? What are the dimensions for that movie look? Is NTSC widescreen the correct size?

First of all, some films on this site actually are shot on film. There have been many posts about trying to achieve film look on video if you check the archives. The most important thing is to not wait for post to achieve it. Maintain your highlights and color relations while shooting, otherwise you're just trying to shine... something that won't get shiny. Beyond that there are programs like magic bullet etc. that can help as well. If you sarch the forum's for the phrase "Film look" I'm sure you'll find a lot of strategies that other people have used.
