I shot some scenes for my recent short film recently that had some bad echos. Anyway I am guess I need to do some ADR work. Does anyone have any advice? The best I can think is to use the on board mic on our XL-1 and record our ADR in a stationary car.

Anyone have any better ideas? Anything would be greatly appreciated.

Try to get your hands on a seperate shotgun mic, it will yield such better sound than using the on board mic. I wouldn't do it in a stationary car unless it's in a (relatively) soundproof area, in which case, why even do it in the car? (Cars usually don't block out extraneous sound too well). Find a very silent place and record there. Maybe some classrooms at your school.. (some of mine are insulated with carpet all over - which makes it extremely silent).

Actually, car interiors have excellent acoustics. Most books and professionals and whatnot recommend recording in a car if you don't have a real sound booth.

interesting...my car (relatively new) does not have the best insulation, nor does most of the other cars I've been in to record dialogue. I guess it depends on the environment

it depends on the car too.

a new Mercedes-Benz will probalby sound better than most sound booths in any state, since they spend a lot of time and money soundproofing their cars. (Mercedes and BMW cars also make really good longreach dollies, since they're so smooth and quiet)

not surprising. you get what you pay for. Looks like I gotta save up $60,000 for my next sound booth. Wink

I think it has more to do with the shape of the car than the actual insulation. Sound carries better throughout it.
