Hey everyone.
I need help/advice on finalizing/rendering video on Sony Vegas 5.0. The video quality of my last film was somewhat blocky and disappointing, but my films prior to that were fine and I did not have this problem. I used the same program and didn't do anything different in the rendering process than i had before. But the video quality was substantially worse. The film had good lighting (better than the films before it) and i know that wasn't the cause. I did add a lighting effect to accent the colors in the film, but I’m not certain that was the cause. I checked the settings on the project and the quality option was on "best". I don't know enough about Sony Vegas to understand the other settings which include: Motion Blur Type, deinterlace method, field order, and pixel aspect ratio. Therefore those settings may have something to do with it. I am stumped. Please let me know if you know any way to fix this problem or what i have done wrong. Thanks for your help. --- Michael Williams

I forgot to mention that this has occured on individual shots within some of my prior films. It seems that it just happens at random. One shot will not have very good quality but another will have perfect quality. Both of the shots were shot in the same enviroment, rendered together at the same time, and there aren't any differences in the peices of video to explain the changing in film qualtity

What format did you render it as?

Also, did you apply that effect to the entire film, and what effect was it?

I rendered it into an AVI file, and I only applied the effect to one scene. I can't remember the exact effect, but I believe it was Color Curves- Brighten Brights

thanks

well, you're going to need to give more details than that.

DV AVI? DivX AVI? MJpeg AVI?

Also, try just putting the quality on good and rendering it. All I've really noticed from the 'best' setting is a jacked up render time and not a whole lot of improvement over good.

Here is some more information. I recorded the video with a sony Hi8 camcorder and put it onto my computer in an avi file, and then i edit it with sony vegas and render it into an avi file. I have never noticed anything that specifies which type of AVI, so all i know is that its an AVI file.

I connect through a IEEE1394 i.LINK®2 DV port to connect my camera to my computer and capture the video onto my computer.

IEEE1394 is Firewire for your future reference...
