I've always used adobe premiere on my video editing and nothing else, and now i'm hearing a lot of these other editing software and it made me wonder if there was something better out there beside adobe. now keeping things simple i have a pc and i also hear so much of final cut pro. but i wonder if there is anything better out there then adobe premiere???? Is there a reason to change?

We have AVid Xpress Dv at our school, and there a few cool things sabout avid. One, the color corresction is the best for the level of editor it's at. Second, I think it's like 80 or 90% of films and TV shows are edited on Avid technologies, and the beauty of that is that all Avid interfaces are the same, therefore, if you can learn Avid Xpress, you can use Avid Symphony and all the others.

Things to think about.

I have never used Premiere.

I am a tad biased towards Avid since I edit with it every day at work, I teach it, and I used to work for them...but besides that.

If you have a choice I would choose Avid. The learning curve is a bit high since it was designed in the days when the only way to edit was tape to tape or on a flat bed - no drag and drop.

Avid has incorporated a little of the drag and drop into the Avid but that is not the best way to edit on it.

The Avid is a great tool. All the post houses that I've ever worked at in Boston or LA use it. It is a great tool to learn.

It's my experience that FCP 4 is an odd one, kinda like Premiere and Avid's child. :-)

That's probably because (so the rumour goes), a lot of Avid designers left Avid to make FCP ...

The learning curve from premiere is steep, but not nearly as steep as premiere to avid.

i think if both software can give u similar end results then we should look at things like learning curve, software cost, software compabilty and bonus software. premiere has an easier learning curve but avid has really cool features that premiere comes short in. Both softwares have their advantages and disadvantages and the users have to weight them out. But i think it eventually falls on to what the pro's are using and the amateurs will follow.

I am very interested in this topic...How well does Avid work with After Effects. I would love to work in Shake or another compositor but really I am isolated here in Idaho, and well school is getting more expensive and if one more tech company comes to town then I may be out of a home, ie Rent is going through the roof.
