Welcome Chev.

ANY Apple Powerbook is a good choice Big Grin But, tell me the specs and I'll see what I think.

The ZR series will do in a pinch. I did a two hour feature on a ZR Smile

OK. I would recommend more RAM if possible. At least 768MB. But if you're on a really tight budget 512 will work. The HD is of the most concern. Your normal files (applications, system, etc) will use about about 20GB probably. I would strongly recommend getting at least 80-100GB or (better yet) getting an external drive, such as a LaCie to store your video files. DV video takes up 12GB per HOUR, so you'll run out pretty quick with only 60GB.

if you're going to be using some heavy editing programs like Final Cut Pro, you should definitely have at least a gigabyte of RAM. And like doughnut said, expand the hard drive or get an external one.

Don't waste money buying RAM upgrades from Apple. I think the PowerBooks have 2 slots now, so what you should do is make sure that the 512MB is on one chip as stock (this may cost around $70 extra). Add a single 1GB chip for 1.5 GB total, which should be fine. Don't spend money on a larger internal drive, either. Laptop drives are much more expensive per gigabyte than standard internal or external drives. Adding an external drive shouldn't be more than $200 or so for at least 160 GB.

The 12" screen is also pretty cramped for editing. I'd look at a 15" model.

Finally, you probably want the Superdrive, not the Combo drive.
