Hey

I am trying to find a sound effect of a ringing ear, (like listening through a persons ears after a big explosion)

i have tried to make it several times but have failed miseribly, can anyone help?

I would try taking an electronic hum or any humming noise and then play with the EQ. I'm not a sound guy though - but it sounds like it might work. Smile

a sine wave somewhere between 1000 and 3000 Hz would be accurate, there has to be a freeware tone generator out there. Use that and really squash the EQ and levels on everything else in the scene and it should sound cool.

Did you ever find the sound? I think I found the sound effect you were looking for on www.sounddogs.com but remember you can make a stylistic choice by having the character, who's ears are ringing, look like he/she is screaming but there is no noise - the audience creates the sound for themselves - that would be the easiest way to create it.

u can get it from counter-strike:source, whenever a grenade or a flashbang goes off u hear that ringing.

to rip the files from cs:s and half-life respectively u need a program: "GCFScape" would be a good choice.

Here is the way I would work it.

1: Fade out the current sounds. Make sure there is background noise in the scene to make it apparrent. If you can, use a low pass filter and bring the cutoff frequency down as the volume comes down.

2: give a short pause

3: Fade in a 750hz sine wave. This is closest to what I hear when my ears ring.

4: Do step 1 in reverse to come out of it.

If you want some help with it, let me know. Sound work is my forte (I have my own recording studio) and I'd be down right happy to help.

Play around with some tuning forks until you find one with a frequency you like, then record it.

I think tuning forks held real close to the ear simulate a ringing ear pretty accurately.
