Hello everyone,

I am looking for material to edit.
Normaly i edit my own short films,
but this time i want to edit a short film from another filmmaker.

I want to use it for applying to the filmacademie (editing).

At first it seems very strange to post a quistion like this on a international website, but why not? Videofiles are very large,
but maybe there is a way to edit overseas??

Maybe I can upload (in lower resolution) the progress of the editing work, so the director can aprove it or make suggestions?

Anyway, it would really help me. So if the material/story appeals to me, i wil edit for free.

Greetings,
Jerry

I'm not saying it can't, but for many filmmakers editing is the most enjoyable part of the process. It's the time when you get to sit down and see all your months of toiling come together and actually come to fruition. There might be a few takers for your offer, but I myself cannot imagine handing off my film to be edited by someone else.

Do you have any qualifications that make yourself so selective? I (and I'm sure many other filmmakers) would consider the editing of someone else's film to be a privilege, not a service.

"So selective"? I think its normal, i am editing for free... I dont think editing is just a privilege, its a service also. I have edited my own short films myself, because i dont like the idea of "giving" the footage to another person to edit also... Ofcourse i understand most short filmmakers want to edit there own material!

BUT... in the proffesional industry a director wont edit there own film (in most cases), there are editors! And even for short films the results can be better because the editor has a new perspective... So i do think its a service ánd a privilege!

Yea but, the director is still there, in the editing room. It's not like he shoots the film and that's it. Ultimately he has the final say, the editor is just someone that helps out and can easily edit things the director wants edited.

Good point. You are right.

Ofcourse i wil maintain contact with the director also, but i totaly understand its not the same...

I must however say, that iam in need for a short film to edit, and that the director can always turn my version down. I wont use it anywere, exepct for applying to a filmschool.

But i can see the downsides also.

Hello, since you are not intending to distribute the film, Why don't you use material from films that that allready exist? There's alot of material int that case...
