What's your preferred NLE for the PC? (If I had a mac I'd rather be using FCP...)

I'm assuming those home movie making deals are out... (Pinnacle Studio 8.3, Ulead Video Studio 7 etc)

What about a shootout between Vegas Video (I like its simple interface), Premiere (never liked this NLE, it looked too much like FCP but didnt have the functionality, I simply got lost), or Avid systems (Xpress, Xpress DV, Media Composer, what's the difference between them?!)? Which would you pick to use on a film project?

By "film project" do you mean film, or DV? Either way, if the film print will be transfered to DV, then DV editing software will be fine. Just checking.

I would have to go with Avid Xpress DV as well. Great stuff, and fantastic color correction controls.

my bad, I meant film = movie rather than film = film...

so the interface of avid xpress dv is comparable to FCP? spending 4000$ on a mac, as nice as it sounds, is outta my range!

www.supermicro.com has amazing prices on great hardware for computers. Massive , extremely fast harddrives and mother boards etc.
This is PC parts by the way. So you could run AVID on it no problem but not Final Cut.

I believe AVID is comparable with FCP, and a huge debate could break out over this.

From what I hear, the new Adobe Premiere (7) is gonna be up there now, taking on a crap load of new features. Better Color correction, better key frames etc.. so PC still has some hope!
