Hi guys,

I've come to the end of editing our 2nd trailer pretty much, and I've learned much about Avid Xpress Pro, and damn, I love it, just like the 2nd trailer, oh my god, if it doesn't look tasty!

But one thing that keeps bugging me is how to make those cool titles you can easily do in Windows Movie Maker, though I don't have the new version and I want to do this in Avid. For example I want a line coming in from the right pretty fast, then stop at the middle, and from the left another line comes rolling in just beneath the above line. I can do a timewarp here, but I can't get it going to the center.

Anyway I would just like some explinations or tips & tricks, or whatever information about making some cool and neat titles in Xpress Pro, so I can get our 2nd trailer finished.

Thanks in advance,

grtz gotan

You don't want to be using a Timewarp effect.

What you want to do is draw your title how you would like it to be in its final state.

Lets say you have three elements: a line above text, the text itself, and a line below the text.

1. Cut the title on top of itself three times for a duration of lets say 5 seconds for now.

2. On each title, use the crop tool to crop out everything but one element. For example on the first layer crop out everything but the bottom line, the second layer everything but the text, and on the third layer everything but the top line.

3. Then use the position slide as well as the keyframes to animate the lines coming into and off of the screen.

Unfortunatley to do really fancy motion titles you're going to have to use AfterEffects. There is Avid Marquee with is the fancy version of the Avid titler in which you can do some really cool animated titles inside Avid. (Or even use Avid 3d that comes with Xpress Studio).

Marquee comes with Avid Xpress Pro HD which is out soon I believe. PC only for now. Mac version coming early 2005.

Thanks for the information. Gotta try that, not sure if it'll work, don't know much about keyframe, position sliding or the cropping tol (although I do have a good idea about the cropping I think).

Do you know some internet tutorials or other information about After FX, I've got that one too. 5.0 that is.

Thanks in advance, and thanks for your good reply.

Btw, what I'm really looking for is a title that comes flying to the screen very fast, I'd love that to then see when the movie is exactly coming.
