Haha.. aight guys I am taking the big step. I am throwing premiere out and learning avid. I am told Avid is better with customizing work setting, better color correction and more like the avid units you learn with later on. After many Premiere codec and other buggy problems, I have convinced myself that Avid is the way to go.
Can anyone offer any good tips or tutorials etc?
Preferablly free ones.. I remember awhile back someone posted a few good sites where you can learn some Avid on PC.
Thanks guys wish me good luck!

If you've ever used FCP, then Avid isn't too different. However, going from Premiere to Avid is beset with problems.

The interface looks simillar in places but Avid is a far far different beast. So different in fact that i'm still struggling to learn it!

Frankly, unless you really need the advanced facilities provided by Avid i'd leave well alone and first hone your editing skills with Premiere.

Besides taking a course with me...one great way to learn Avid Xpress DV is to get the DV editing book available on the sites Film Book's section.

Avid Xpress DV Editing

The book comes with media and has lessons and exercises.

In fact...it is pretty close to the official Avid Xpress DV course that I teach in Hollywood. (except it doesn't come with me)

It is selling for $34 on Amazon.

The editing interface is pretty much exactly the same as Media Composer. There are a couple of advanced features missing, but the editing is exactly the same.

In fact, the projects are compatible between Xpress and Media Composer.

If you have any questions let me know.

Well, I have edited on Premiere for about 3 years now. But I am just sick of its limits and problems I have with it. I believe now is the best time to learn Avid, especially if I would like to advance anywhere in the film industry. I haven't found any tutorials yet.. I am not sure who posted about it before, but someone listed a site with some great avid tutorials.. just forgot to bookmark it Frown

I don't know of any sites with any Avid tutorials on them unfortunatley.

The official Avid book is the best thing that I know of for XDV.

Perhaps if I ever get a chance I'll write one for the boards.

That is funny cuz i was just going to mention how cool it would be if you had a tutorials section added to the site.
Have everyone contribute so to speak from everything dealing with lighting, squibs, post production, make up etc.

I think you should really consider this Chris!!
